"The place God calls you is the place where your deep gladness and
the world's deep hunger meet"
Frederick Buechner, theologian
Do you long to find this place in today's 24/7 world of seemingly constant
change and stress? Do you yearn to step away from today's cultural traps,
the endless cycles of working more for productivity improvement, working
more to spend more, and always being electronically "in touch"?
At this most sacred time of year, pause for a moment. Join tonight's conversation
to help bring your work into a healthier perspective. Learn how to link
your work with the "Great Work" of bringing peace and meaning
into our world. Yes, markets change, jobs come and go so quickly, the
pace quickens endlessly, and we wonder if this is really what our lives
are for. Yet learning to remain rooted in that meeting place of your own
deep gladness and the world's deep hunger can carry you through the challenges.
Rev. Lucy Reid, CTh, and Fred Evers, PhD, draw on their
extensive experience as a priest and a sociologist to offer wisdom and
compassion for what they call the "workplace woes". Lucy is
the ecumenical chaplain at the University of Guelph, where she spends
much of her time connecting with the faculty and staff members. Fred is
an acclaimed sociology professor who has long focused on the human side
of work-related issues. Their new book, Working with Spirit: Engaging
Spirituality to Meet the Challenges of the Workplace was just published
in summer, 2004 by ABC Publishing. The book, like their personal styles,
is warm, relaxed, and friendly yet is well grounded in solid knowledge,
professional experience and personal faith. You can reach Lucy at lreid@uoguelph.ca
and Fred at fevers@uoguelph.ca.
