Buddha in the Boardroom ©"
with LLOYD FIELD
Monday March 29, 2004
7:30 to 9:30 pm
University of Guelph
Buddhist ethics and responsible corporate governance can go hand-in-hand
in todays Western society, and can enlighten ones own spiritual
values. The ancient wisdom of the Buddha suggests a close and deep relationship
between wealth and the well-being of society. How business profit contributes
to the betterment of the community and society is the issue. And the issue
is about intention, not about philanthropy. Shareholders, Boards and organizational
leaders have, in Buddhist thinking, a responsibility to create an ethically-based
and holistic environment within their organization and community. Our
presentation and conversation tonight will be about the possibilities,
given our present economic environment, to create workplaces and communities
where social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs of individuals
are met. Well talk about how all the organizations constituents
can go beyond purely competitive relationships and economic equations.
Lloyd Field, PhD, was a popular workshop leader at our conference
last spring at the University of Waterloo, Seeking Common Ground: Connecting
Work, Spirit and Organization. Thirty years ago he left his corporate
position as a vice-president of Human Resources to create and lead an
organizational development and human resource consultancy. His clients
include many North American and international Fortune 500 organizations.
Lloyd frequently contributes to business publications, has trained over
10,000 managers internationally, and wrote a Canadian best seller Unions
Are Not Inevitable!© A Guide To Positive Employee Relations, now
in its 4th edition. Later this year, Lloyd will publish Buddha in the
Boardroom©. He is former President of the Board of Nalanda Buddhist
College. You can reach Lloyd at: lloyd-performancehouse@rogers.com.

Finding Vocation: Clarity+Courage=Confidence
with TIM ELLIOTT
Saturday April 24, 2004
10:00am to 4:00pm
University of Guelph
If you want to move forward in life with confidence and find your vocation,
whether it be where you are now or requires a big change, both clarity
and courage are necessary. Explore what courage is and how it can be a
gift. You will focus on what is already clear to you and on what needs
to be clarified, helped by self-reflection questions that will be provided
to you. This program is of real value whether you are an employee, self-employed,
retired or in transition. And enjoy Tims piano music that will help
you on the journey....
Tim Elliott, DMin, is a work transition consultant whose doctoral
work focused on vocation. He is a jazz pianist and former Anglican parish
priest who started popular Jazz Vespers services. Through Elliott Resource
Services and through Getting in the Groove (you've probably read about
them -- live jazz as metaphor in the workplace), Tim offers programs that
integrate music, spirituality, teamwork, creativity and business to encourage
purposeful and responsible living for both organizations and individuals.
And for fun, he is currently researching the connection between jazz and
spirituality. You may remember Tim as a speaker at our 1999, 2001, and
2003 spirituality in the workplace conferences, and his wife, CBCs
Judy Maddren, at our 1998 conference. Reach Tim at ElliottResourceServices@bellnet.ca.
