Work that is rooted in your passion is one of life's finest blessings
and something many of us desire. A big change at work, a period of unemployment,
the onset of retirement, or mere restlessness can force you to reflect
on what it is that guides you in your choice of and perspective on your
work. But any time is a good time to learn how to lessen the gap between
the reality of your work and your dream of "meaningful work."
The symbol is our tool tonight to help you connect with your guiding passion.
Symbols are bridges between what you clearly understand and what can only
be understood obliquely. Symbols help you deal with paradox and with uncertainty,
those unavoidable companions on any life journey that is "enfired"
by your soul. Explore the symbols of your passion through a hands-on encounter
with miniatures and through discussion, poetry and stories. Bring a journal
or blank paper.
JOANNA BEYERS, PhD, is a poet who for 20 years has been exploring
the relationship between the inner life of the symbol and the outer life
of work and action, between nature and experience. Joanna trained as a
natural scientist and policy analyst. Now she works with both organizations
and individuals as a facilitator, lifestyle/career coach and therapist-in-training,
specializing in leadership development, creative renewal, vocation, focus,
conciliation and collaboration. You can reach Joanna at WindOakDove@sympatico.ca.
