INVITES YOU TO

The WISDOM & POWER
of the REFLECTIVE LEADER:

An Evening with
MICHAEL STEPHEN, Doctor of Letters

Monday, October 24, 2005, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
The ABC, near Bloor & Yonge, Toronto

MICHAEL STEPHEN is someone who I am deeply honoured to consider a caring mentor and a distinguished supporter of the Centre for Spirituality at Work. He is a former President and CEO of Aetna Canada and Chairman of Aetna International. Yet with all this busyness at work, Mike maintained his personal spiritual practices, meditating daily and being active with his faith community. Years before it was proscribed in popular business books, he focused on the creation of a business environment where managers could experience individual and personal transformation, realizing correctly that this would create and nurture competitive advantage, thereby assuring organizational growth and development. In appreciation for his leadership and personal involvement, in 2002 the Aetna Business School at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai named its library the Michael Stephen Library. In 2002 Mike published his first book, Spirituality in Business The Hidden Success Factordescribing his business experiences in Asia and the Americas. It has now been published in Latin America and Russia, with rights sold in China and Indonesia. Books will be available for sale this evening, and are stocked at ABC. In addition to many speaking engagements, Dr. Stephen continues to be active as a consultant, leadership coach, member of boards, and an active volunteer (don't call him retired!).

Please join us this evening as Mike shares his wisdom and insights on organizational ethics and morality, reflective leadership, and the power of spiritual practices. We will examine the bridge that exists between the realities of work, spirit and organization -- each separate and distinct yet so internally connected if you are to honour and reach your full potential during this life journey. Mike will describe the six lessons he learned in business where work, spirit and organization were merged in a context that expressed spirituality very concretely. And he will talk about the importance of legacy as a separate spiritual dimension that directs his life at home and at work. You can reach Mike at michaelastephen@aol.com.
