MEANING-MAKING AT WORK

A Reflective Conversation
with Sherry Connolly

4 Tuesdays, 5:45 to 6:45 pm, March 7 to 28, 2006
Church of the Redeemer, Bloor & Avenue Rd, Toronto

Hello to Friends of the Centre for Spirituality at Work.

As you may know, one role in my life is as a U. of T. doctoral student in applied theology. My focus is on how a downtown church can be a resource for the spiritual needs of people who work in the neighbourhood. The ministry setting for this is Church of the Redeemer, an historic, open and inclusive Anglican church at Bloor & Avenue Rd. in Toronto where I'm a parishioner. This ministry is welcoming for people of any or no faith tradition. It includes a drop-in meditation group led by Joseph Bergeron that meets in the chapel every Thursday 12:15 to 1:00pm. We begin with a brief talk by Joe, followed by 20 minutes silent meditation in whatever tradition an individual practises, such as the John Main tradition, centring prayer, mindfulness, etc.

I will be facilitating a reflective conversation series for 4 Tuesdays, 5:45 to 6:45 pm, March 7 to 28. The theme is Meaning-Making at Work, with a different topic each week: Can we consecrate the ordinary? Money & meaning. Job or work? Can our work be sacred? The agendas are based on guidelines developed by the Rev. Whitney Roberson for her Spirituality at Work ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of California. This approach can lead us to real depth and meaning in an amazingly short time. We will meet downstairs at Church of the Redeemer, 162 Bloor St.W., Avenue Rd. entrance, Classroom A/B.

If you can join us for at least three of the conversations please pre-register by Sunday March 5: Sherry@SpiritualityAtWork.org, 416-482-9175, giving your name, e-mail address, and phone number. There is no fee for this series.

All the best,
Sherry
