Enneagram at Work

The Enneagram is a powerful system for understanding human motivation that offers amazing insights into the way we perceive and relate. Its origins are believed to date back to at least 14th century Sufism, and its acceptance today was developed partly through its use in Jesuit communities. Learn how to apply it in your work and personal life as a tool for self-awareness, leadership, relationships and teambuilding. The Enneagram illuminates the deeper "why" behind a person’s preferred strategies, and opens the door to greater compassion and flexibility.

Helen Peacock, MSc, is the Past President of the International Enneagram Association and has studied with every major Enneagram author/teacher. Through Turning Point International, she achieves extraordinary results for her corporate clients, such as Cara Operations and Motorola Canada, by applying her in-depth knowledge of the Enneagram motivational model and her many years of line management experience. She focuses on the areas of Leadership, Teambuilding and Change Management. Helen is at Helen.Peacock@sympatico.ca.

How Not to Take Things Personally

Identify how and why people -- including yourself! -- can become hurt and disappointed. Do this by exploring the basis of self-awareness and self-knowledge. Focusing on listening, we’ll squash a bunch of listening myths, and have some fun with the six listening masks and the Six Challenging Personalities. Learn new communications skill sets to help you design realistic expectations, deal with anger, be honest, let go, and learn from your mistakes. We’ll talk about perspective, and how to implement your own ongoing self-nurturing program to reinforce the successful communication habits you build.

Life Integrity

"First we create our work, and then our work creates us," Ira Progoff

Many people feel overworked and overwhelmed, without time to ‘have a life’. Major life and work transitions can seem constant, ceaseless, and all too often unwelcome and untimely. We can try desperately to balance work and life, as if they were separate, external objects to be moved into just the right arrangement. Another alternative is Life Integrity. Living with integrity means that integration rather than balance becomes your aim: placing yourself in the middle of your life, claiming and bringing your work, family, friends, finances, and so on towards unity. Learn a process and tools for self-awareness and life integration including twilight imagery, journaling, and internal dialogue, developed by Ira Progoff, founder of Dialogue House, creator of the Intensive Journal Process, author of At a Journal Workshop.

John Bryan, DMin, is an executive advisor and senior organization design and development consultant for business and non-profit workplaces. He has been an executive for The United Presbyterian Church in the USA and Chair of the Board for Toronto School of Theology. He is widely published in areas related to organization, professional and personal development and ethics, and is certified as an Intensive Journal Facilitator. It is a privilege to listen as he shares his vast store of wisdom. He is at JTBryan@interlog.com.

CS08 An Introduction to Constructive Communication
"Out beyond ideas of 'rightdoing' and 'wrongdoing', there is a field...
I'll meet you there."
- Rumi

Be introduced to a simple yet profound process for preventing or peacefully resolving differences by deeply connecting with another person’s feelings and needs as well as with your own. Teams can increase goodwill and cooperation amongst themselves and with others; co-workers can resolve differences and accommodate different viewpoints. Individuals can break patterns of thinking that lead to anger, depression and stress; parents can nurture and build family relationships. Constructive Communication is based on the internationally-known work of Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D., founder of the Center for Nonviolent Communication and author of "Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Compassion". Constructive Communication puts "hands and feet" to any spiritual practice
and decreases stress for the concerned parties.

Kathleen Conway, MA (Communication Arts) is a facilitator and writer who specializes in communications skills. She is a trainer candidate with the Center for Nonviolent Communication, and has studied the work of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg for seven years.  she leads lively, interactive and practical workshops throughout Canada and the U.S. Some of her current clients include VISA Canada, TSX Group, MCI Canada, and federal and provincial government ministries and agencies.
